How To Enable Native iOS 8 Quick Reply For WhatsApp Messenger

WhatsApp, which was famously acquired by Facebook last year, is among the most popular cross-platform chat apps. Used by hundreds of millions, a large portion of WhatsAppers are connected via Apple’s iOS, and while the app is more than fit for purpose, it does have its fair dose of limitations. As ever, the jailbreak community has delivered a tweak that pushes the capabilities of WhatsApp beyond the basic, bringing a quick-reply feature to the fore. Further details, as well as information on where to find this tweak, can be seen after the fold.
iOS has long been lacking in so many areas, and while this remains the case, iOS 8 brought a few crumbs of comfort. Notably, users can reply to correspondence through Messages without having to jump into the app directly, which is much more convenient and promotes general fluidity. Apple has limited this feature to its Messages app only, so if you wish to quickly reply to a message from a third-party app like WhatsApp, you must open up the app and take the long route, but a new beta tweak hopes to cut out the proverbial middleman and enable native Quick Reply for WhatsApp.

It’s called Nuntius, and because it’s still in beta, it’s not yet the finished article. In fact, having given it a whirl for ourselves, it is rather buggy at this stage, and one key prerequisite is that you’ll have to have the app running / backgrounded in order for the tweak to work. But it gets the job done and will let you reply to banner notifications in a seamless manner akin to Messages in iOS 8.

To test out Nuntius, add the repository http://sharedroutine.com/repo/ in Cydia, download and install. As we say, it’s not exactly a perfect solution, particularly given the lack of lock screen notification support, but it’s a step in the right direction. Hopefully, in time, WhatsApp and many other IM apps will be able to offer substantial quick-reply in iOS.

What’s more, WAToolkit also adds a handy WhatsApp button to the toolbar that displays the number of unread messages. Hover over it and you will see a summary of the conversations that have unread messages without having to actually visit the WhatsApp page itself. If you find yourself receiving messages but not wanting to reply to them immediately, this is the kind of thing you will make heavy use of.

The extension is also lightweight with performance in mind during its development, which means that even when Chrome is doing its best to eat every resource you have, things shouldn’t grind to a halt. At least, not thanks to WAToolkit. If only all extensions could say the same.

Of course we’d all much rather WhatsApp create its own desktop application to go along with its mobile offerings, but with that seemingly unlikely at the moment and with even its mobile offerings devoid of regular updates especially on the iPhone, we’ll take what we can get at this point.

Download WhatsApp Desktop Client For Mac OS X

The popular WhatsApp messaging service may be mobile oriented, but that doesn’t really help if you spend all of your day looking at a Mac and wish that there was just an easy way to send some messages to your friends. With iMessage and other competing messaging platforms already having a Mac app, the WhatsApp omission is a glaring one.
With that lack of a native app in mind, you may want to check out WhatsMac. A free download from GitHub, WhatsMac takes WhatsApp and brings it to the Mac in the shape of an app that looks and feels rather like the aforementioned iMessage from Apple. That’s no bad thing either, with WhatsMac supporting the sending and receiving of media as well as the obligatory text.

While a native app, it’s worth noting that WhatsMac is essentially a fancy wrapper for the WhatsApp Web Client interface, which means you will need to already have your WhatsApp account suitably synced up with your phone. That also means that there is no iPhone support non jailbreak users. If you’re a heavy WhatsApp user and find yourself sat in front of a Mac for the most part then this is the kind of thing that you may want to give a try. The important thing to remember here though is the lack of iPhone support, which given the Mac target audience may be an issue for WhatsMac further down the line.

You can downloaded WhatsMac for free from the project’s open source GitHub page here and it is obviously free for use as well. Download it, enjoy it and look forward to the day when a native WhatsApp client lands on the Mac with full support for iPhone users. That said, given the fact that the app is now owned by Facebook and we still don’t have a native Facebook app for the desktop, we really wouldn’t want to put a timescale on when a WhatsApp app will make the jump from mobile for itself.
But that doesn’t stop us from keeping our hopes up now does it? Definitely not.

WhatsApp Messenger on the iOS App Store is definitely the king of the hill when it comes to instant messaging. Not only has it been in and around the top downloads chart for multiple years, but it’s also cross-platform and has managed to attract the attention of Facebook, which subsequently ended with a multi-billion dollar acquisition. Now, thanks to the OnlineNotify tweak, jailbroken iOS users can keep track of the WhatsApp activity of their friends without needing to constantly go into the app.

Anyone who uses WhatsApp will have faced similar issues. Sending a message to a friend or loved one and wanting to know if that message has been read. Seeing that the contact in question is “online” but isn’t replying. It can become extremely tiring, and a little creepy in all honesty, to keep invoking the app just to see if that contact is currently showing as online within WhatsApp. OnlineNotify is a handy little tweak for jailbroken iOS devices that removes the need to actually go into the app to get this information by presenting it directly on the device in the form of push notifications.

OnlineNotify essentially comes with two main selling points; it tells you when a particular contact is showing as online as well as when that contact is typing in the conversation stream. It doesn’t have the ability to notify when a message has been delivered or read, but that information is still readily available as denoted by the gray and blue double ticks in the conversation window. The package also ships with a very handy little Notification Center switch that can be used to immediately enable or disable all notifications from the tweak. This is extremely handy when you have a lot of contacts selected in the notify table who regularly come and go on WhatsApp.

Of course, like a lot of jailbreak tweaks, users will need to make a few allowances due to restrictions on what can and can’t be done on the device. In order for OnlineNotify to work WhatsApp must be constantly running in the background of the device and therefore will always show the user as “online”. If the device is locked, the system automatically kills Wi-Fi, rendering the tweak null and void unless the Insomnia package is also installed. Still, even with those limitations, OnlineNotify is a great little package for keeping track and when your friends are ignoring you on WhatsApp.

Step 4: TaiG will now begin to jailbreak your device. During the jailbreak process, do not disconnect your iPhone, iPad or iPod touch. Once it is complete, your device will restart and you will have latest version of Cydia installed on the main home screen.

How To Use WhatsApp Web Client With iPhone

Now that WhatsApp Web Client for iPhone has finally launched, it is understandable that the service will be an entirely new experience for most users out there. If you’re an iPhone user and wondering how to use WhatsApp on your PC or Mac, we have you covered right here with our step-by-step guide.
Before you begin, it is important to point out that WhatsApp Web can be accessed via most web browsers on any desktop platform; Mac OS X, Windows, and Linux. So without wasting any more time, let get down to business.

Prerequisites:

• Latest version of WhatsApp installed on your iPhone.
• One of the following browsers installed on your Mac or PC: Chrome, Firefox, Safari, Opera.

Setup and Use WhatsApp Web Client with iPhone:
Step 1: To begin, launch WhatsApp on your iPhone, and tap Settings tab.

Step 2: Now tap WhatsApp Web which should launch a one-time-only QR code scanner.

Step 3: Point the web browser on your Mac or PC to web.whatsapp.com which should take you to the WhatsApp Web landing page. Simply use the scanner shown in Step 2 on your phone to scan the QR code shown at the aforementioned URL.

Once the iPhone processes the QR code, the Web Client will log you in, presenting you with a rather familiar WhatsApp UI; one that is very much akin to the mobile version as can be seen in the screenshot below.

You can get started with sending and receiving messages straight away, including audio, video and photo messages. Messages can be archived, muted, and pretty much all that you could setup in the mobile app, can be setup in WhatsApp Web as well.
But how do you get notified if you’re not following the conversation, while the phone lies out of reach? Luckily, the client offers desktop alerts for all incoming messages. Below we show you how to enable this feature.
Enable and Configure Desktop Alerts
Step 1: Once you login to WhatsApp Web for the first time, you will see a blue colored banner right under your WhatsApp profile picture. Click Turn on desktop notifications.

Step 2: Following the above Step 1, you will be prompted to permit the web browser to handle incoming notifications and alert you. Hit the Allow button.

Step 3: Now that desktop alerts have been enabled, click the menu-like button next to your profile picture and select Notifications from the drop down menu.

Step 4: Here you can enable or disable Desktop Alerts altogether. Additionally, if audible alerts are not your cup of tea, you can disable them, including the option to mute all conversations on WhatsApp for a pre-defined period of time. It is important to note that all conversations muted on your iPhone, will remain muted in the Web Client as well.

Apart from this, if you wish to logout of WhatsApp Web Client remotely from your iPhone, you can do that as well. Simply launch WhatsApp on your iPhone, head over to Settings > WhatsApp Web, and tap Log out from all computers.

WhatsApp Web Client Launched, Here’s How To Set Up And Use It

One of the most requested WhatsApp feature has finally arrived. Our favorite IM app has just launched its Web client, meaning that WhatsApp users will now be able to communicate with their contacts right from their desktop. Aptly titled ‘WhatsApp Web,’ the service is currently available for users on the Android, Windows Phone and BlackBerry platforms. Where’s iOS? Well, users have to wait a while, since according to WhatsApp, Apple has certain platform limitations, so don’t expect it to arrive any time soon.

Interestingly, the service is only accessible via the Chrome browser for desktop and its Android based app. Mac users cannot access WhatsApp Web via Safari, but can use Chrome for that very purpose, and the iOS version of the Big G’s Web browser isn’t supported either. According to the WhatsApp team, support for more browsers is likely to be coming soon.

Now that we have established where WhatsApp Web will run and where it won’t, we take a quick look at how the service works. Basically the Web client is a mirror of your WhatsApp app, with slight changes to the UI, but nothing Android users won’t be familiar with.
Step 1: Be sure that you are running the latest version of WhatsApp on your smartphone.
Step 2: Head over to the web.whatsapp.com URL, where you will be greeted with a QR code that needs to be scanned.

Step 3: The webpage also lists where you can access the WhatsApp Web option on your Android, BlackBerry or Windows Phone device. Tap that option on your phone’s WhatsApp client, which will launch the QR code scanner.
Step 4: Scan the code and voila! WhatsApp Web should launch in a matter of few seconds.

Using the service itself is no rocket science and comes loaded with all the awesome functions and features that we have come to know in WhatsApp. The Web client allows users to enable desktop notifications as well which is a pretty nifty addition to the existing features’ list.

How To Use WhatsApp On Windows PC Or Mac

Want to use WhatsApp Messages app from your Windows PC or Mac? Here’s a complete tutorial on how to do just that with a few easy steps.
The app we’re going to use to make the magic happen is called AirDroid 3, and it hooks up with your Android device to send and receive WhatsApp messages remotely.

Note: Before we begin with setting up AirDroid 3 on your Mac / PC, here’s a bummer; the AirMirror service, which we are more concerned about, will only work if your Android device is rooted.

Requirements:

• Download the AirDroid 3 desktop client for Windows PC / Mac from: airdroid.com/en/get.html
• You will need an Android device with AirDroid installed, download it from here.

How To Use WhatsApp On PC Or Mac
Step 1: To begin, install the downloaded AirDroid 3 desktop client on your PC or Mac, and proceed to signing in with your username and password. In case you’re new to AirDroid and have not signed up before, hit the ‘Sign up’ button at the bottom to make a new account.

Step 2: Download and run the AirDroid app on your Android device and sign in with the same username and password used for the desktop app.

Step 3: Once you’ve signed in, AirDroid will notify you on your desktop that a new device has been connected.
Step 4: As prompted by AirDroid, you also need to enable Notification Mirror on your Android phone. To do so, in the Android AirDroid app, navigate to Settings > Notification and enable AirDroid Notification Mirror service.
Great! You have the desktop app and the Android client app all setup to use the AirMirror feature.
Step 5: Since you have Notification Mirroring enabled on your Android device for AirDroid, any incoming notification, including WhatsApp, will appear on your Mac or PC. To respond to an incoming WhatsApp message, simply click on the notification and voila! You will see a windowed clone of your Android device with the complete WhatsApp interface on your PC or Mac.


To enter text, simply type away on your keyboard, or use the mouse to click and add some emoticons and other things.
